what is H5N1 and H1N1?

Pandemic is the highest level alert by WHO for a spreading disease. Earlier we had the Bird's flu, Anthrax which caused the bells to ring. But none has come closer to H1N1 since the days of smallpox  or chickenpox. H1N1 , often termed as LEVEL 1 virus causes flu like symptoms . Humans have combated level 1 virus before and have triumphed in the end. Its much lower in order or alertness to LEVEL5 (H5N1 aka Bird's flu). Though both level 1 and 5 have strikingly similar symptoms but it is only the H5N1 that is hard to fight (the order of 1->5 indicates increase in the level of disease and hence much difficult to fight).
H1N1 can be well put to control by the use of TAMIFLU vaccine . H1N1 has a very low spreading rate in  the lungs region and hence has low fatality rate whereas H5N1 is mutating virus and hence has been able to induce fatality even after so many years.

After much of research and study finally H5N1 is at the brink of facing its end as the vaccine is nearly ready to fight against its 'basic' form.

SaaS/ CLOUD COMPUTING and microsoft

Notice the headline!

They say half of the battle is won before the real war even starts off. Same has been mentioned for movies nowadays - half of their story is well understood before you go and watch the movie. A few days back I had a chance to watch this exciting interview of Steve Jobs from Apple and Bill from MS. Both were sitting with each other and to me they answered the 'pepperd' and 'piping hot' questions in the best possible and both avoiding to become usurpers.
THE VIDEO IS HERE.
There were views taken on cloud computing, SaaS etc. Steve was pressing on the fact that how Apple has helped through innovation 'decoupling of the hardware and the software' while Bill was often noticed talking about projects to revolutionize or capture the markets. He often sounded glib than convincing and Steve sounded more practical and talked about retrenchment or eroding margins (timely praising ipod and iphone). Then there was this question on 'cloud computing'. The MS made it all clear by saying that they have taken it as a challenge. Now to the Developer community that MS has , it wouldn't be exaggerated to say that they had presaged the whole phenomenon well before 10 years time and were working for it consistently since then. In the last decade the was the coming up of 'VISUAL STUDIO' platforms which made the smaller players round the globe to make and sell softwares. While still keeping in mind the rising software prices by MS.
Steve was rather enjoying the whole concept of having going into partnership with other smaller companies to develop APPS ( Apple Apps store). This in a way also increase the customer participation and helps developing not only content for your software but also develops sentiment for it. This is exactly the point MS has missed out - they forgot to make the companies and software closer and in a way emotionally attached .

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month

today as the honeymoon.

Pakistan- state of Nation

After receiving aids profusely , Pakistan  started fighting with Taliban. The army movements in and around Pakistan is huge and it is expected to touch 15000 against 4000 Taliban fighters. The terrorists are surely outnumbered but they have successfully jettisoned some of the fact that Mr Musharraf ( as a President followed by Mr Zardari) used to convey. To begin with the very fact that Pakistan held the Pashtuns and other Afghani Tribal insurgents off its borders has been blown off to bits.
Second and the curious one is the way Pak has submitted the modified version of sharia law in 2 months time. This not only raises alarms but also questions the mannerism things were conducted in and around these regions.
Here comes an observation , Indian region we also call as POK(Pak occupied Kashmir ) saw a similar insurgency. Was India not capable of holding the terrorists back ?The answer is simple and is related to weather in and around the region around POK.
Rewinding our thoughts back to pak region, the panacea is believed to billions of dollars for each and every attack carried out against Afghani Taliban. The fickle in the heart and minds of paki officials have again made them akin to their desolated enemy. Yusuf Raza Gilani , PM of Pakistan is also believed to presage the act of war in Swat region as a wilting effort.

so what is going to come off such discussion , discernment ?.No , the conclusion is what is  most engaging. War do brings loss of life and property but in this situation it was also a blessing in disguise for pakis. Now they not only have money to back themselves up , their economic position (where inflation once stood at mind-boggling 26%) has eased off. US has constantly stood beside their ostensible partners , helping them whenever they need it.I consider this as an act of partial atonement (it was CIA who created Taliban and Al- queda in the first place) and also as an experimental battleground where they can test their napalm missiles or Drones for that matter. The loss belongs to AF-PAK and is constantly perpetuating to its neighbors.

multiverse-The very concept

This blog entry was written a while ago while I was watching NGC's documentary (which infact I was trying to gnaw and digest very hard at the beginning) on Multiverse. We are supposed to be living in a UNI-verse i.e a place unique and with unparalleled existence. But the studies by some very renowned physicists of our age has put forth a theory (of course based on experiments and observations ) that there are not only 3 dimensions but 11 dimensions in whole!

I was flummoxed at the very existence of such beliefs. Being a Hindu , I was always driven towards science because of  correlation within  astrological, physical phenomenon with the hindu beliefs and customs. Talk about Nakshatras or astrological prediction of solar and lunar eclipse , there always has ben a distinct familiarity. Most of such facts can be found written in our holy books - Bhagvad Gita , panchang  and the vedas . But nowhere I heard or saw a written transcript stating 11 dimensions or multiverse.
The documentary canvassed some facts about destinations  such as   Earth like planets or some  planets deserted like Mars. But the 'philosophical me' took the fiber of the story in a much different way. I think the fact was written all over the place - it was  talking about the existence of choices in a life of a human being. The idea is pervasive and perpetuates deeply within each individual. Consider a situation where we have done something wrong then we think f not doing that particular thing or might just consider the fact of traveling in a time machine trying to resurrect that was destroyed or to mend a broken relationship. Multiverse means there will be many earths , each having its own creatures and rules to follow. In some  Iraq and US are best of friends, in some Hiroshima never happened.

Readers might just draw picture of a depressed author but my point is the use of nimbleness in adversities of life. Such facts do remove the nebulousness of mind and help the rationale prevail. Then the nuclear age can be thought as long gone or the quadrupling of oil and land faces the end.

S for Satyam and Satyam satnds for......

Blasphemy! or perhaps hoodwink. There are fair amount of chances that it stand for "misdemeanor". The readers must have realized by now that I am more or less going to criticize the company and its man but that's something not exactly going to happen this time. My last post on Satyam identified the flaws and the bad news a week earlier. The question stands that how I did it , well it was not so difficult after the acquisition of MAYTAS and people leaving the rocking SATYAM ship soon had indicated what is Mr Raju hiding up his sleeves . The post also highlighted the so called vindicated CEO Mr Raju as a good corporate governor. This comment might not stand by everybody's thoughts  but it did in my case. You cannot possibly say that a person was not a good governor  after all he hid the facts for 10 long years. The way he did it was with all the people who were with him back then  , all those who have left the rocking ship.

He has definitely set up an excellent case study for management people but also in my mind he has become a hero by the way he took PWC and DSPML along with great names such as Mr Vinod Dham . That was his capability of carrying a bunch of 40k people . Not just  that he was buying land for his sons but also paying false salaries and dealing with 'benaami' companies.

He surely is a great thinker and I well doubt the capabilities of Indian Judicial system that it can  dispense him with what he has done .
