SaaS/ CLOUD COMPUTING and microsoft

Notice the headline!

They say half of the battle is won before the real war even starts off. Same has been mentioned for movies nowadays - half of their story is well understood before you go and watch the movie. A few days back I had a chance to watch this exciting interview of Steve Jobs from Apple and Bill from MS. Both were sitting with each other and to me they answered the 'pepperd' and 'piping hot' questions in the best possible and both avoiding to become usurpers.
THE VIDEO IS HERE.
There were views taken on cloud computing, SaaS etc. Steve was pressing on the fact that how Apple has helped through innovation 'decoupling of the hardware and the software' while Bill was often noticed talking about projects to revolutionize or capture the markets. He often sounded glib than convincing and Steve sounded more practical and talked about retrenchment or eroding margins (timely praising ipod and iphone). Then there was this question on 'cloud computing'. The MS made it all clear by saying that they have taken it as a challenge. Now to the Developer community that MS has , it wouldn't be exaggerated to say that they had presaged the whole phenomenon well before 10 years time and were working for it consistently since then. In the last decade the was the coming up of 'VISUAL STUDIO' platforms which made the smaller players round the globe to make and sell softwares. While still keeping in mind the rising software prices by MS.
Steve was rather enjoying the whole concept of having going into partnership with other smaller companies to develop APPS ( Apple Apps store). This in a way also increase the customer participation and helps developing not only content for your software but also develops sentiment for it. This is exactly the point MS has missed out - they forgot to make the companies and software closer and in a way emotionally attached .
